Dear RSU 57 Community. In an attempt to communicate proactively to provide ample notice to our families and staff, we want to share that we are closely monitoring the weather forecast. Tomorrow, Wednesday January 10, is a scheduled Early Release Day in RSU 57. Please be advised that should we make the determination that there will be a 2-Hour delay, the Early Release would be cancelled and the student day would end at the regular school day ending time. No decision has been made regarding tomorrow at this time. As always, we balance the desire to maintain our school calendar while always prioritizing the safety of students and staff. We will share additional information regarding tomorrow's school day as proactively as possible.

During the week before Holiday Break, Waterboro Elementary students participated in an "Art and P.E. Week" put on by Ms. Amy Nucci (Art) and Ms. Samantha Person (P.E.). WES students across multiple grade levels participated in activities rooted in movement and creation during this combined specials block. Activities focused on many different Art and P.E. learning targets including balance, lines, negative space, breath work, science, muscular endurance and cooperation. Thank you to Ms. Nucci and Ms. Person for creating an amazing hands-on learning experience for students! Click the link below to view a slideshow of students in-action during Art and P.E. Fourth and fifth graders at Alfred Elementary School participated in National Geographic's Explorer Classroom Wildlife Series to develop their own explorer mindset and investigate the wildlife in their community. National Geographic strives to help students "explore wildlife globally, while taking action locally." This picture is of the projects students created to teach others about the endangered species in Maine and suggest solutions to the problems they face.

Thank you to our transportation, operations, food service and instructional staff for navigating unforeseen challenges today. We are also grateful to parents and guardians for their patience as we coordinated getting students home safely this afternoon. Approximately 70% of homes within RSU 57 are currently without power, including three of our schools. As we look to tomorrow, decisions regarding school cancellations will be made at an individual school level. Any closures or cancellations will be relayed to you early tomorrow morning. As crews continue to work towards restoring power, we are mindful of the impacts that these challenges will have on our students and families. Our thoughts are with those who were impacted and we wish you a safe and healthy evening.
