It is with great excitement and pride that we announce the recipients of the Model Mustang Staff Award for the month of March! This award is a tribute to those outstanding individuals who embody the qualities of a true “Model Mustang”; they inspire, lead, foster positivity, persevere, and excel in all that they do. Each Model Mustang was nominated by colleagues who took the time to acknowledge and celebrate their coworkers’ exceptional contributions to our district. Their hard work and commitment have not gone unnoticed, and we are grateful for the positive impact they have within RSU 57! This month's raffle winner is Kayla Midolo, 1st Grade Teacher at Waterboro Elementary! "Kayla is a wonderful teacher and valuable colleague. She is an important team member to the WES staff and provides great ideas for her first grade team. She is able to balance both structure and fun into her teaching. She has a kind demeanor and her students absolutely love her. The way she teaches has created students that love to learn, a skill they will carry with them throughout their lives." Seventh grade Interdisciplinary Studies and Science students at MMS have been diving into the fascinating world of aquaculture through an exciting partnership with the Maine Aquaculture Innovation Center (MAIC) and the Boothbay Sea and Science Center. This collaboration has brought unique, hands-on learning opportunities into the classroom, allowing students to explore one of Maine’s most important coastal industries. This fall, students successfully grew two types of seaweed in their classroom, which are now thriving in the ocean and nearly ready to be harvested and returned to school. MAIC also supplied a variety of seaweed samples for students to study, offering them an up-close look at the species commonly cultivated in Maine. To further enrich the experience, students participated in a virtual session broadcast live from the boat of a local oyster and seaweed farmer, where they asked questions and learned about aquaculture directly from the source.

Massabesic Adult and Community Education (MACE) is proud to celebrate the 19 graduates who have earned their high school equivalency (HiSET) since July 1, 2024—with 8 more students on track to graduate before the end of this school year. Earning a high school credential opens the door to a wide range of opportunities. Our recent MACE graduates are considering career paths in fields like education, construction, electrical work, CNC machining, and military service. A high school diploma or equivalency is more than just a piece of paper—it’s a critical stepping stone toward a stable, meaningful career. In fact, 63% of jobs in the U.S. require at least a high school diploma, and individuals who earn theirs see, on average, a 53% increase in income over ten years. Whether you're looking for a better job, a more consistent schedule, or a fresh start, completing your high school credential is a powerful first step. We invite the entire community to join us in celebrating the accomplishments of these hardworking individuals at our upcoming graduation ceremony on June 18. All are welcome to attend. Contact Massabesic Adult and Community Education at 207-247-2022 to begin your journey today!

On Friday, Massabesic High School hosted a special assembly during Mustang Time to celebrate junior Devenny Brickett, who was recently named Sanford Regional Technical Center’s (SRTC) Student of the Year. Devenny is currently enrolled in SRTC’s Health Occupations program, where she is working toward her CNA license while also serving as Class President and Vice President of the Student Council. A member of both the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society, Devenny has completed over 200 hours of community service and excels in athletics and competitive dance. Passionate about nursing—especially palliative care—she values the hands-on experience SRTC provides, which has strengthened her commitment to patient-centered care. During the assembly, SRTC Director Matt Petermann presented Devenny with the Student of the Year award, joined by her proud mother, KyleAnn. Devenny will be formally honored at the MACTE Student of the Year Banquet on May 3rd at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor. Congratulations, Devenny!
