UPDATE: Evacuation at MHS This morning during Block 1 a propane operated Bunsen burner caught fire in a Science Lab classroom at the West Building and required extinguishing by district staff. Students and staff were evacuated and then relocated to the East Building on campus. The Fire Department responded and evaluated the situation. There were no injuries or significant property damage. In addition, the district’s propane provider was asked to conduct a safety inspection. Due to the time required to complete the safety inspection the decision was made to dismiss students and close the campus until the inspection could be completed. Dismissal began at 10:30am for all high students and all other schools operated as scheduled. At 1:10pm the propane provider deemed the building safe for re-entry. Students who need to gather belongings at the West Building can do so today between 3-5pm. Please report to the main office so a staff member can assist. All evening events on campus will remain cancelled as previously communicated. Weekend activities will be held as scheduled. Thank you to all who assisted with this process as well as to the students for their cooperation and flexibility. Sincerely, Larry Malone, Superintendent
